About Culham
The Culham Institute is a small development and research organisation working in the areas of religious education, collective worship and church schools. Founded in 1980 out of the closure of a teacher training college, its current work focuses particularly on policy and promotional issues, curriculum resource development and teacher support. There is a strong focus on the use of multimedia and ICT.
Culham’s parent body is the Culham Educational Foundation, an independent Church of England charitable trust (Charity No. 309671). It is housed in the Educational Studies Department of Oxford University, with whom it has an operational association.
Culham’s core team is small, with a wide network of associated individuals and bodies. Much work is done on a collaborative basis with other Church College Trusts and educational charities, RE organisations and dioceses. It manages the St Gabriel’s Programme and the ‘TeachRE’ project.
The Director is the Church of England’s national spokesman on RE, Treasurer of the RE Council of England and Wales and Secretary of the Association of Church College Trusts.
The Foundation gives a small number of educational grants, mainly to individuals living or working in the Diocese of Oxford. More about Grants.
