Christmas 2003

Introduction

We are grateful to the pupils of Upton Noble C of E VC Primary School, Somerset, for their help in providing this resource which has been produced for KS1/2. Having looked at - and used - this resource it may give you ideas about how you can use pupils' work in your own school.

Resources

We have provided:

(1) An introductory prayer -
There are others in Prayers for use in Collective Worship - a database of prayers from other worship resources.
You might choose to let children use prayers which they have written themselves, or perhaps you have your own school prayer which you use at some point on each occasion when you come together in worship.
We suggest you end the worship by singing a Christmas carol!

(2) The presentation, in two formats -

  1. Christmas Presentation Resource >>
(version with fixed timing - Macromedia Flash format - 513Kbytes)
The first version runs automatically and could be used with a music background of your own choice which you could play separately while showing the pictures.

  2. Christmas Presentation Resource >>
(version with pauses - Macromedia Flash format - 514Kbytes)
The second version allows you to choose when to change each picture.
Again we have left you to choose your own music, if you want to do so. This version also allows you to pause at chosen points in the presentation and have children reading or playing music themselves.
Both presentations use the free Macromedia Flash player, which you can download here if you do not already have it installed.
(The link will take you to the Macromedia website. The process should take no more than a minute on a 56k connection).

Useful tip: if you're using Internet Explorer for the presentation, press F11 to make use of the full screen. Press F11 again to return back to normal. Try it!

If the PC you're using for the presentation does not have Internet access, you will need to save the .swf file and copy it. To save a presentation, choose either the timed or paused version and right-click on your mouse (left-click for left-handed mouse), then select the 'Save Target As/Save Link As' option from the pop-up menu.

Please note that we have not tried to tell the Christmas story - but rather to provide you with an illustrated resource around which you can build your own act of worship.

If you would like to do so please send us any presentations you make for worship - or prayers which children have written. We are more than happy to consider including them in the bank of resources on this site.
You can send any contributions to: cowo@culhaminstitute.org.uk

Introductory prayer:
Dear God,
Wise men came searching and you gave them a star to show where to find Jesus;
Shepherds were working on the hillside through the night and you gave them the voice of an angel telling where they could find Jesus.
In our excitement as Christmas comes, please help us to remember that you want us to be like Jesus: the baby born in a humble place, the one who grew up showing us how to love each other - and to learn about Jesus - your own son.
Amen
