Suitable for class based assemblies of 5-10 minute duration. Very little preparation is required as each day is a self contained PowerPoint presentation with pictures and some words that move automatically through the sequence. They could be viewed in any order, though it is recommended that Day Two is shown on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, and Day Four is used at the end as a conclusion.

A presentation prepared by Y11 Students from All Saints College, Newcastle upon Tyne, with all their own photographs and thoughts about bullying. Although this presentation does not have music, a recommended song that fits the mood is from Moby's album 18 and either Track 2: 'In this world' or Track 5: 'Signs of Love'. All of the photographs have been taken by students from All Saints College in Newcastle upon Tyne. Special thanks to the staff and the students for their work on this project and for the College's permission to use them.

An audio visual presentation thinking about our own mortality based around the burning of the palm crosses and the words of the Ash Wednesday service. It uses photos of the palm crosses burning and also the music and lyrics from the song, 'Frail' by Jars of Clay*. *The only music supplied with this resource is for Day 2 and is called 'Frail' by Jars of Clay from their Album, Much Afraid (1997) and has been used with their kind permission for this presentation only.

A true story of someone who was bullied and their response to it.
|
A chance to review briefly the previous days, followed by a challenge to do something. A teacher may want to have some more input to this presentation (though not essential). An old clay mug or jug could be brought in and at the appropriate point in the presentation (slide 17), the teacher could pretend to the class how precious this item is, and then ask a member of the class to come out and keep it safe. This student comes to the front and hits it with a hammer (the student having been asked beforehand to take part in this destructive task, and having made sure all the necessary safety precautions have been taken). Why do we get so upset when an old mug breaks? Yet we are happy to sit by and watch people who are infinitely more valuable be broken by bullies every day. The presentation can then be continued with slide 18. Students may want to discuss their feelings at the end of this presentation and some may want to talk confidentially to the teacher.
