That Hurts! Madeleine Bunting explores the complex experience and language of pain. She considers whether the experience of pain gives us a common language and means of connecting with others, or rather isolates us. And, if it is impossible to measure pain, either physical or emotional, how do we decide whose pain is most deserving of attention? [Repeated at 11.30pm]

Rageh Omaar presents an intimate portrait of Canon Andrew White, 'The Vicar of Baghdad'. White, who runs the region's only Anglican church, has been hijacked and held at gunpoint, and members of his congregation have been victimised for their beliefs; but he remains confident that there is a future for Iraq amidst the bloodshed, and has worked tirelessly to become an effective intermediary between the country's conflicting groups.
Tuesday 11th November

Paul Ewing returns with the assembly series for infants offering a broad range of religious, spiritual and social themes, carefully chosen for the age group. Programmes include a story, song, a reflection / prayer and opportunities for discussion.
Programme 8: Gandhi
Themes: small actions can lead to big changes; 'you must be the change you wish to see in the world' (Gandhi's words).
 1.30pm R4 50 Years of Little Richard
Sarfraz Manzoor interviews the influential rock and roll musician Little Richard about his life and career. Performing since the 1950s, Little Richard has been hailed by many for the role he played in the development of rock and roll; indeed, he himself claims that his song Tutti Frutti was 'the beginning of rock and roll'. He also describes the racial prejudice that he experienced and the deeply-held faith that led to his becoming an evangelical minister. The programme features some of his greatest hits and lesser-known gospel songs.
Wednesday 12th November
 9.00pm C4 Saving Africa's Witch Children
Sophie Okonedo narrates this Dispatches special following the work of Englishman Gary Foxcroft, who has devoted his life to helping victimised and vulnerable children in Nigeria. In some of the poorest parts of the country, where religious fervour and black magic abound, thousands of youngsters are blamed for catastrophes, death and famine and branded as witches by Christian pastors. The film looks at the work done by Gary's charity Stepping Stones Nigeria and meets some of the rescued children.
 10.00pm BBC4 A Year in Tibet
Faith, Hope and Charity. Documentary series following a year in the life of the society living in and around the Tibetan town of Gyantse. The monks begin preparations for New Year, one of Tibet's biggest festivals. Lhakpa, a local rickshaw driver, struggles to earn money as winter approaches. He embarks on a scheme to buy and sell puppies, with disastrous consequences. Hotel owner Jianzang gets involved in a court case which has a surprising outcome. In Tangmai, the doctor cannot cure Lhamo's crippling stomach pains.
Thursday 13th November
 9.00am R4 In Our Time
Melvyn Bragg and guests, including Martin Conway and Gemma Calvert, discuss recent developments in neuroscience and examine the relationship between the mind and the brain. New knowledge of how the brain works has challenged concepts of free will and consciousness and opened up new ways of understanding the mind, yet these new ideas also seem to conform to some old psychological ideas such as Freudian psychoanalysis.

Free Thinking Special: In a rare, extended interview in front of an audience at this year's Free Thinking Festival, Philip Dodd talks to former Northern Ireland First Minister the Rev Ian Paisley. A preacher, author and one of Britain's best-known and most controversial politicians, Rev Paisley discusses his faith, his career and his remarkable political journey.
Friday 14th November
 12.20am BBC2 India with Sanjeev Bhaskar
Mystic River. Sanjeev Bhaskar finds out how the country's ancient traditions still shape life today. Starting in Calcutta during the chaos and fireworks of the Hindu New Year, Sanjeev takes a trip on the Ganges, and sees a spectacular statue-dunking ceremony dedicated to the city's patron goddess, Kali. And he finds out how today's young Indian professionals are reconnecting with the spirituality of their forefathers.
 3.00am R4 Together (Digital Radio)
Together provides a complete assembly resource for juniors, using material from a broad range of cultural and religious sources. Each programme contains a story, a song and a time for reflection and is suitable for whole school or class use.
Programme 8: Peace after war
Themes: How war changes people, its lasting effects and the challenges of facing life after conflict.
