The Classroom:

SORTING AND CLASSIFYING IDEAS ABOUT THE CHURCH

Prepare Sets of words and / or pictures, including, e.g. bible, hymn book, prayer book, font, water, baby, crosses (different sorts), altar, bread, wine, pulpit, minister / priest (e.g. speaking), organ, drums, keyboard, stained glass window, flowers, candles, lectern, pews, kneeler, singing, reading, praying…

- Put the children into pairs or groups of four.

- Give each group a set of words and / or pictures of features inside the church.

- Each group should sort them out in their own way and then discuss this as a class. They could think of names for their classified groups.
