Investigating Materials 1b
- Describing different effects in the church e.g. soft, hard, rough, spiky.
- Exploring fabrics using magnifying glasses, e.g. banners, hassocks.
- Weaving, e.g. making hassocks on return from the church.
What is Sculpture 1c
- Looking at sculptures in a range of materials inside and outside the church.
- Looking at natural and human-made sculptures in a graveyard.
- Looking at weathering on the building.
- Investigating and making a favourite place out of doors. This could be
linked to the visualisation and use of senses.
Picture This 2a
- Pretending to be ‘cameras’ and looking through ‘viewfinders’.
Drawing what they see in a frame. (This would be a suitable activity inside
or outside the building).
- Revealing a photograph of a church and using visual clues with the children
e.g. shape, colour, lines. An interactive whiteboard tool could be used.
Can buildings speak? 2c
- Producing prints and rubbings of patterns found in the building, e.g,.
tiles, brasses, bricks, wood grain.
- Describing shapes and patterns.
- Asking the minister about the purpose of the building and different areas
in it.
- Using viewfinders to explore shapes and patterns.
- Designing a mural (see the scheme of work for more information).
